In 2025, many people might think that recycling is something we all do automatically, but the truth is quite different. Even though recycling rates have improved in recent years, the majority of people in Cyprus still do not recycle regularly. Extreme weather, higher energy costs, and the shortage of natural resources are just a few of the reasons why we should all start caring more about the environment and make recycling a daily habit.

Green Dot, since its establishment in 2003 as the first Collective Packaging Waste Recycling System, has played an important role in protecting the environment. In a world full of constant changes and global challenges, Green Dot has become a trusted partner offering smart solutions that help the country grow in a sustainable way and support the idea of a circular economy – where resources are reused instead of wasted.

According to the latest numbers from Eurostat (2022), Cyprus is now among the top seven countries in the EU for packaging recycling, with a rate of 70%. This shows that Green Dot is commitment to help both the island and its people. These positive outcomes, however, only increase the Organization’s responsibility to continue modernizing and adapting to the demands of today’s world.

Part of this effort includes the building of a new, modern recycling facility, which is expected to be ready in 2026. This plant will help manage packaging waste in a better way. It will sort and process materials like paper, plastic, metal, glass, and more. It is designed to handle 36,000 tons of waste every year.

A key part of Green Dot’s plan is to educate and inform people about how to recycle correctly. The company runs awareness campaigns, creates educational programmes, and works with schools and local groups to teach people about why packaging waste management is so important. Good information is the first step to building a culture that cares for the environment and trusts the recycling process.

Transparency, accountability, and systematic monitoring of processes are non- negotiable principles for Green Dot. These values help build trust with the public and make sure that every effort in recycling leads to real results.

Recycling is a shared responsibility!
